Race Weekend Goes Bananas Over BAMSI Donation

1/15/2016 1:35:00 AM

NASSAU, Bahamas (January 15, 2016) – The Bahamas Agriculture and Marine Science Institute (BAMSI) is about to leave a good taste in the mouths of local and international runners this weekend.

The North Andros-based institute has donated a whopping 3,000 bananas to Sunshine Insurance Race Weekend (SIRW).

Thousands of Susan G. Komen Bahamas Race for the Cure® and Marathon Bahamas participants will nosh on homegrown bananas following their respective races.

The potassium-filled fruit is ideal for endurance runners, as it plays a crucial role in muscle strength.

BAMSI officials say they are pleased to partner with Race Weekend.

The 7th annual Race Weekend officially begins on Saturday.

The series kicks off with the Komen Bahamas 5K event, now in its sixth year. It starts at Montagu Beach at 7:00 a.m. and ends at the former Hurricane Hole area on Paradise Island.

Marathon Bahamas will take place on Sunday, January 17 at Junkanoo Beach and end at Arawak Cay.
